ABOUT THE SUMMER INTENSIVE
The iO Summer Intensive is a 5-week program where students dive into all five levels of the iO Training Center curriculum at the historic iO Theater in Chicago, the birthplace of improvisation.
This program enables you to learn the entire program at an accelerated rate to prepare, expand, and launch your comedic expertise at the world’s best longform improv incubator. You’ll learn from the best comedy teachers in the world for five weeks, with each week bringing a new level of curriculum and a new teacher.
The program culminates in a performance at iO Theater, followed by a party to celebrate your summer in Chicago and your accomplishments in improv comedy!
Like all iO Training Center students, the iO Summer Intensive cohort will receive a student ID that grants you access to all regular programming for free, including iO Fest, Chicago’s largest comedy festival.
THE iO SUMMER INTENSIVE SCHEDULE
- The program runs from July 6-August 6, 2026 at iO Theater in Chicago, IL.
- Classes meet every Monday through Thursday from 11:00AM (CST) to 5:00PM (CST).
- Week 1 is Level 1 (July 6-9)
- Week 2 is Level 2 (July 13-16)
- Week 3 is Level 3 (July 20-23)
- Week 4 is Level 4 (July 27-30)
- Week 5 is Level 5 (August 3-6)
- The program culminates in a final performance at iO Theater on Friday, August 7. (check date w/ TC team)
- iO Fest 2026 is July 23-27, all iO Summer Intensive students will get a 4-Day pass with their tuition.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The iO Summer Intensive costs $1800 (excluding fees). Please note that convenience fees are added for purchases made via credit card. If you would like to inquire about paying via mailed check or Zelle to avoid the fee, email classes@ioimprov.com.
You may make half payments of $900 to secure your spot. Any tuition payments are nonrefundable.

How to get here
iO is a five minute walk from the North/Clybourn Red Line Stop and just two minutes off the 72 North Ave Bus Route. We offer no parking, but limited street parking and several pay-to-park lots are located within one block.
Food & Drink Menu
We are an all ages venue with full food and beverage service. Our bar and kitchen are open each show night at 6pm and offer delicious and affordable options before, during, and after the shows.
