Sketch Pool is a crash course designed to give a taste of being on an iO West House Sketch Team. Whether you weren’t selected for team the last round or you’re interested in giving it a shot before the next auditions, Sketch Pool was created for you! It’s a chance to work with new people, pick up a few tricks and tools, and perform sketch regularly on at iO West.
First, the writers submit 2 first draft sketches for notes from your director that week and are rewritten and resubmitted accordingly. The director picks a sketch from each writer (maybe two!), then casts the show and send the actors the scripts on Friday. Sunday afternoon, you meet at iO to rehearse the show. Then Sunday night you perform your 20-ish minute show in the same hour with an iO West Featured Sketch Team! And you do the whole thing again for 3 more weeks!
It’s a lot of work and a fast turnaround, but a great opportunity to get involved in the sketch program and receive a lot of stage time. House sketch teams only do 2 more shows than The Sketch Pool each audition cycle!
If you want to write, submit a packet of three of your favorite sketches you’ve written.
If you want to act, submit a link to your 2-3 minute character reel video.
They don’t have to be perfect, just show a little of what you can do and that you’re eager to play and grow. That’s what Sketch Pool is for!
Sketch Pool is run by Blake Hogue. Email email@example.com to apply!
