Classical Comedy: Shakespeare’s Maids, Maidens & Matriarchs (2 hours) – $25

Take the fear out of Shakespeare with this fun and supportive workshop! Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum company member and Second City grad, Carolyn Marie Wright, will introduce you to techniques in Scansion, Rhetoric and Text Analysis and then apply these techniques to specially-selected (female!) monologues. Carolyn uses her unique blend of Classical and Contemporary Comedy to encourage participants to create multi-layered, grounded characters and “find the funny” in high stake situations. All experience levels welcome.

Davis Neves is the founder/director of Improv Dance Company. IDC was born from the love of dance and improv comedy. IDC combines classic physical improv games, creates new games out of patterns, explores group mind and of course breaks the rules. No dance or improv experience is required, simply the ability to ‘Yes And’ physically. Improv Dance Company hosts workshops and regularly performs in Tomorrow with Ron Lynch, Catsby at the Clubhouse, and more.

A dancer since age four, Davis has trained with Oz PAC, Patti Rutland Jazz, Atlanta Ballet & EDGE PAC. She is a graduate of iO West and Hothouse Improv playing on teams School Night, Nerd Love, Maestro if You Please & Suddenly Dapper. She has worked as a clown with Stefan Haves and Zen Arts. She is a credentialed teacher & produced SlapCon 2014. Davis is also known for her recurring role on Comedy Central’s Workaholics, plus various films, tv & commercials.
Andie Bolt has 10 years of experience in the digital comedy space. Has written developed and produced shows for Nerdist, Geek Nation, Alloy, Smosh, The Fine Bros, Seventeen Magazine, Awesomeness TV, Hearst Media, Univision, National Lampoon, to name a few. Andie mentors and coaches female comics including the near and dear to her heart Cake Batter. A proud feminist, Andie makes it her goal to educate and empower women in the industry both in front and behind the camera.
How to sell, develop and SELL your web show! (2 hours) – $25
Friday‚ 12/05/14 – 4:00 PM – LOFT
In this fast paced, jammed packed workshop students will learn the ins and outs of pitching, what you need, how to prepare, ways to practice, and how to follow up after a pitch. This hands on class will leave you feeling more confident when you get in the room and give you tools to take home with you.

Emily Maya Mills has appeared on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Comedy Bang! Bang!, Childrens’ Hospital, Key and Peele, The Birthday Boys, The Life and Times of Tim, Harry’s Law, Crash and Bernstein, Parks and Recreation, Ellen and many a bizarre commercial. She’s written and performed two character-based solo shows at UCBTLA: Hopefiend and God Hates Figs. The latter earned praise from the LA Weekly which called it, “…a sagacious autopsy of the frailties and foibles of life,” and asked, “Could Emily Maya Mills be the next Carol Burnette?” Emily is also an an accomplished stand-up and has written and performed with several UCB Maude teams. In 2011, her all-female indie trio, Birds of Prey, won Punchline Magazine’s Best New Sketch Group. She’s been called a “Funny Female to Follow on Twitter” by the Huffington Post and has a cat-like dog that walks like a pony.
Crash Course in Character (2 hours) – $25

Emily Maya Mills (Birthday Boys, Key and Peele, Ridiculousness) teaches a nuts and bolts approach to committed character performance. This class will offer quick tips on accessing and enriching characters, developing new ones and structuring character monologues.
Experiencing the TV Writer’s Room (2 hours) – $25
Saturday, 12/6/14 – 2:00 PM – DCT
We’ll discuss the unspoken culture of the writers’ room, and then collectively break an episode of TV to experience the feeling of the room.
Talk Show Casting (2 hours) – $25
Saturday, 12/6/14 – 4:00 PM – DCT
This workshop will cover getting cast and working on talk show sketches.
