Improv Program Intensives
The iO West Theater offers shorter “intense” versions of their Improv Program throughout the year.
Level 1 Intensive
A one-week intensive option encompassing all of the material covered in the introductory Level 1 of the IO West Improv training curriculum. Class meets Monday thru Thursday with a 3-hour morning and afternoon session. Taught by IO Co-Artistic Directors Zach Huddleston & Colleen Doyle.
2017 5 Week Summer Intensive
The great curriculum and teachers that have made the IO West one of the country’s best improv schools, is available in a 5-week intensive format. You’ll learn the breadth of the IO improv philosophy from the fundamentals of listening and agreement to performing The Harold, the signature longform improvisation piece at the IO West (and in the world). The class culminates in a performance in our Mainstage theater.
The class meets every Monday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM for five weeks. Each week is taught by a different one of IO’s acclaimed instructors. 2016 instructors included: Craig Cackowski, Jason Shotts, Colleen Doyle, Dave Hill, Brian Jack, Lyndsay Hailey, and Zach Huddleston.
The Summer Intensive is a great opportunity for both people that are just visiting Los Angeles for part of the summer and for people that live in town and have the time and the desire to dive headfirst into IO training. Those performers that complete the Intensive and would like to continue their training at IO will be given the opportunity to be placed into an upper level class in the IO Training Center (specific class placement is based on cumulative teacher feedback).
We’re excited to offer two different sessions of the Summer Intensives this year to better fit schedules. Teaching lineups will vary but both sessions will be taught by our world-famous instructors.
