This class teaches the basics of the iO improvisation as created by Del Close and Charna Halpern and adapted for young men and women 13-18. This level introduces all of the skills used to create the Harold for development in Levels 2 through 4.
Here teens build what was absorbed in Level 1 while allowing discovering potential strengths; it focuses on character creation, “the group mind” and object/environment work.
This class concentrates on the two-person scene, the anchor of long-form improvisation while continuing to build on Levels 1 and 2.
This is where teens use all the skills acquired in Levels 1, 2 and 3 to create the Harold, the signature long-form structure at iO. Teens learn and apply ways to be a good team player, an editor, a director, a choreographer… if needed, to play as sound effect or scenery. In short, all the responsibilities and joy of being a Harold player on an iO stage.
